During the outage
No power, no lights. The control box and the LEDs all run on house current. If you've got a whole-home backup or solar with battery, the lights run on that just like any other circuit.
When power returns
The control box reboots in about 20 seconds. It re-reads its stored schedule and resumes whatever scene was supposed to be running. If a Christmas pattern was on at 9pm and power comes back at 9:08, lights pick up at 9:08 like nothing happened.
Surge protection
Standard install includes a small surge protector inline with the controller. Big lightning hit can still kill electronics — that's what the 5-year LED warranty is for. We've replaced exactly two controllers in three years for surge damage, both covered.
