The 24-month rule of thumb
At Standard tier ($2,800), you need to either (a) recover most of it in resale, or (b) avoid 2+ years of seasonal-installer fees. If you do both, it works. If neither, it usually doesn't.
When it still works
You currently pay $1,200+/year for a seasonal hang. You're going to enjoy it for 12-18 months, not pay it next year, and likely recover $800-$1,500 in faster-sale value. Net: roughly break-even — and you got a year of premium curb appeal.
When to wait
You haven't been paying for seasonal hangs and you're listing in 6 months. Just wait, sell, and install at the next house. Easier.
